The company behind dating app sued for sexual harassment

A lawsuit was filed on June 30 in the Los Angeles Superior Court against popular mobile dating app Tinder. The lawsuit claims that a female executive was subjected to a pattern of abusive sexual harassment. The parent companies of Tinder, IAC and Match.com were also named as defendants.

The former marketing vice president said that the app's co-founder and chief of marketing took away her title as co-founder. According to the former marketing vice president, he told her that the company looked like a joke by having a "24-year-old girl" listed as a co-founder. She said that she was called derogatory names in front of the company's chief executive officer. Additionally, she said that he was subjected to multiple inappropriate messages from the co-founder. She says that when she complained about the treatment, she was forced to leave the company.

The former marketing vice president said that she had wished to resolve the matter in a confidential matter, but due to multiple failed attempts, she chose to pursue the lawsuit. A statement from IAC was released, saying that the co-founder was suspended and that an internal investigation was being conducted on the matter. The statement said that the investigation revealed that the co-founder had sent private messages to the woman that were inappropriate. This lawsuit is the latest in a series of similar allegations that have attacked the technical industries for not creating a work environment that is conducive to having women as executives.

Individuals who are subjected to inappropriate sexual comments, unwanted sexual advances or lewd comments on the job may decide to pursue a sexual harassment claim. Additionally, if they have lost a job, suffered a demotion or have otherwise been subjected to an adverse employment action, they may also have grounds for a retaliation claim.
